Living and dining room Hilversum

Project: Town house Hilversum

This town house dating back to 1921 in Hilversum was already one of its kind. Most of the original details like the stained glass and wood carving were well-preserved, since the house was in the family of the previous owner for three generations. Because the interior was quite outdated the new owners, a young couple, were in need for a plan to completely re-design all the spaces of their new home. So, we came up with a plan, which included color advice, a personalized floor plan with lay out proposal, paint & wall coverings proposals, a complete furniture proposal, window treatment advice, a lighting plan and bespoke floor tile designs for the kitchen and outdoor spaces.

The living room, ensuite dining room and adjoining garden room are a mix of brown and bronze hues, combined with black accents. A perfect match with the stained glass, the marble of the mantlepiece and the original parquet floor. The use of natural materials like wood, suede and leather are complemented by the minimalistic shapes of the HAY dining chairs, Nelson Bubble pendant lamp and Jess Earl lounge chairs. For the walls on opposite ends of the room we choose a paint with a high gloss finish and a pearly bronze sheen. By applying it on the narrow walls it makes the room look wider. Instead of curtains we went with semi-transparent duet top down bottom up duettes, which provide privacy, but also let enough light in and expose the gorgeous stained glass at the top of the windows.
