Velvet dreams; a bedroom with en suite bathroom & a movie room

Project: Amsterdam-Noord
1B omslag velvet bedroom.png
A new-built apartment in the North of Amsterdam for a young couple, who had 4 specific whishes; contemporary use of color, sustainable and qualitative materials, spacious & practical lay-out, enough room for their hobbies, being film, music, reading and fine arts. We came up with the concept of velvet dreams. And were able to meet all four of their requirements. (Text will continue below the images.)

Contemporary use of color:
We choose a mix of vibrant colors with a hint to the 70’s, which we mixed and matched throughout the different areas of the house, mainly in the upholstery. We kept the base neutral with oakwood floors and natural materials. (Text will continue below the image.)

Spacious & practical lay out:
The bathroom is in the middle of the two bedrooms and accessible from both sides. The toilet is purposely placed in a separate space and accessible from the hallway, which is more practical when you have guests. There’s a spacious shower with tinted glass on the master bedroom side, so you can benefit from the daylight in the bathroom as well. We chose a beautiful petrol velvet upholstery for the bed and complemented the walls with the same color, while the purple bench in front of the bed is a fantastic contract. In the bathroom we see the combination of the oakwood cabinet fronts and Mosa mint green tiles from the colors collection, combined with golden details in the mirrors, faucets (Grohe) and lighting. Sustainable & qualitative materials:
Rattan, as we mentioned before, is a natural material, which was used a lot in the 70’s and is quite popular nowadays again. Made has a gorgeous wardrobe and mirror, with rattan and black details and a rounded top, which perfectly fits with the shape of the bed head board and metal custom-build separation wall. The same shape can also be found in the lighting and mirrors in the bathroom. (Text will continue below the image.)

Film, music, reading and fine arts:
In the extra bedroom we will place 2 large Montis Domino daybeds in the color lux petrol, a big screen and a sound installation. This room is ideal for listening to music and watching movies. The petrol color of the daybeds will contrast beautifully with the deep purple color (same as the backsplash of the kitchen) on the walls and the ruby red accent of the Pols Potten zig zag side tables.
