Extensive upholstery design advice for a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom

Project: Rough elegance

A specific upholstery question from this client, for a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and walk-in closet. What an impressive architectural design it was and up to us to enhance that with our advice. We choose luxurious fabrics and wall covering with a lot of texture and color. The base was the oakwood flooring and dark grey limestone tiles in the bathroom. We wanted to lift those materials by adding rich colors and textures. As always we started by creating a mood board (text will continue below the image).

As a basis we choose a grey wallpaper from Vescom; Morris 2011.13, which has a soft velvet finish and applied it to the walls in the bedroom, hallway and walk-in closet. It goes nicely with the grey tiles in the bathroom and is a perfect match for the red we are about to add to the design. Please see the color scheme below (text will continue below the image). 3 Floor plan and color Rough Elegance.png
For the walls around the chimney, we choose an Arte walls wallpaper from the Essential collection, les tricots chintz in the shade Crimson. Shades of red in a sort of leaf palm leaf pattern finished off with a shiny fil-a-fil textile. The perfect contrast in the bathroom and hallway. It makes that part of the room stand out. (The text will continue below the image.)

Before we go to the last wallcovering we used, let’s talk about the choices for the curtains. We started off with a semi—transparent linen fabric from Pierre Frey; Cabrieres in the shade Galet with stonewashed coloration, it’s a beautiful drapery fabric (text will continue below the image).

As a second curtain we added a very rich fabric, also from Pierre Frey; le Rocher with a gorgeous embroidered motif inspired on the Indian tree of life from the 18th century. It gives the bedroom a sophisticated decorative effect. Since we had some fabric left, we decided to make a pillow case as well out of it as well (text will continue below the image).

Then the carpet in the bedroom, which we placed partly under the bed in a round shape. Since the furniture was a mix of round and rectangular shapes already, we wanted to build on that. The carpet is the Patina brick round from Moooi carpets and has several red tones in it, which complements the colour in the curtains (text will continue below the image).

Finally, to top it all off we decided to add 1 more wallpaper, also from Arte walls; Select from the Enigma collection. A pattern that seems to emerge from the wall with a very soft finish. Applied in a round shape, like the carpet, to make it playful (text will continue below the images).

All-in all we created a cohesive ensemble, which we called rough elegance. A rough basis of oakwood and limestone tiles, which was complemented by elegance of the rich textured fabrics and wallcovering.
